Matt Damon--Legend!

I am sure you have all heard of it in the US, we may be a little slow to receive this celebrity news down under. If you haven't done so check out this interview where Damon sticks up for teachers.  http://www.fixinged.com/2011/matt-damon-defends-teachers/

Pay for Performance

Colleagues in the US who may have already suffered through this hare-brained scheme, we are about to suffer the same through the same system. Like nearly all policies implemented by our current government it appears to have had little thought put into the 'how'. Will some agency be created to actually think this through that has the students' interests at heart? I don't think so! I though economic rationalism was going to leave education, seems it will be with us for another decade at least. What do others think about pay for performance in education?

Brain Rules

I am currently reading John Medina's 'Brain Rules', it is excellent. It is easy to read and clearly describes how some of the information can be applied in an educational setting. I even tried one of the suggested strategies with my Year 12 English class and it worked really well. Is anyone else reading this? I would love to hear other people's experiences.
